A Mission of Love and Empowerment
On March 8th, 2025 (Women’s Day), Youth in Unity for Christ Link embarked on a life-changing mission – The Pad a Girl Project. Our goal was simple yet powerful: to provide sanitary pads, educate young girls and women about menstrual health, and restore dignity to those in need.
We visited three communities—Mount Zion High School, Nakisene, and Bufutuula—impacting 400 girls. For many, this was the first time they had access to menstrual health education and essential hygiene supplies.
But we need to do more!
The Impact – Reaching 400 Girls with Menstrual Support
Sanitary Pad Distribution
We were able to distribute 216 sanitary pads, but the need was far greater.
📍 Mount Zion High School – 170 girls received education on menstrual health, and we distributed 72 sanitary pads.

📍 Nakisene Village – 130 girls (including 30 under the age of 13) benefited, with 82 pads given out.

📍 Bufutuula Village – 100 girls engaged in meaningful discussions about menstrual hygiene, receiving 62 pads.

While these numbers are a step in the right direction, many girls still lacked adequate support. With your help, we can reach even more girls in need!
Breaking the Silence: Menstrual Health Education
Beyond distributing pads, we educated and empowered young girls and women by addressing:
✅ What menstruation is and why it’s normal.
✅ Proper hygiene practices to prevent infections.
✅ Different menstrual health management methods (sanitary pads, menstrual cups, etc.).
✅ How to handle period stigma with confidence.
For many girls, this was the first time they felt free to talk about their periods without shame. The gratitude in their eyes reminded us why this mission matters!
The Harsh Reality – Challenges Girls Face
Many of the girls we met shared heartbreaking struggles:
❌ Lack of sanitary products – Many use unsafe alternatives like rags and leaves.
❌ Embarrassment and stigma – Periods are seen as “dirty” in some communities.
❌ Little to no family support – Some girls miss school because they lack pads.
These challenges are why we must keep fighting for menstrual health support. No girl should feel ashamed for something natural!
Challenges Our Team Faced
While we celebrated our impact, we also faced struggles that limited how much we could help:
🔸 Shortage of sanitary pads – We couldn’t meet the full demand.
🔸 Not enough knickers and soap – Essential items for menstrual hygiene were lacking.
🔸 Time constraints – We had limited time to educate each group.
🔸 Financial limitations – Our ability to support more girls was restricted by funds.
These challenges highlight the urgent need for more resources and support!
Celebrating Success – What We Achieved
