Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Health Support
On February 8th, 2025 (Women’s Day), Youth in Unity for Christ Link successfully organized the Pad a Girl Program to support young girls and women with menstrual health education and sanitary pads. The mission was to provide essential menstrual products, create awareness, and empower girls to manage their menstruation with dignity.
Our team visited three key locations – Mount Zion High School, Nakisene, and Bufutuula, reaching a total of 400 girls from different age groups.
Sanitary Pad Distribution
We distributed 216 sanitary pads across the three locations:
✅ Mount Zion High School – We engaged 170 girls and distributed 72 sanitary pads while teaching them about menstrual hygiene.
✅ Nakisene Village – We interacted with 130 girls (including 30 under the age of 13) and handed out 82 sanitary pads.
✅ Bufutuula Village – Our team met 100 girls, educated them about menstrual health, and distributed 62 sanitary pads.
Although we impacted many lives, the number of sanitary pads was not enough to meet the needs of all the girls. We encourage more people to support this initiative to reach even more girls.
Menstrual Health Education & Awareness
During the outreach, we educated the girls on:
🔹 What menstruation is and why it is a natural process.
🔹 Proper hygiene practices during periods.
🔹 Different menstrual health management methods like sanitary pads and menstrual cups.
🔹 Challenges girls face during menstruation and ways to overcome them.
Our discussions helped break the stigma surrounding menstruation, encouraging girls to embrace their womanhood confidently.
Challenges Faced by Young Girls & Women
From our interactions, the girls expressed challenges such as:
❌ Lack of access to sanitary products.
❌ Embarrassment and stigma associated with menstruation.
❌ Limited support from family and community.
These issues highlight the urgent need for continuous menstrual health support in these communities.
Challenges Faced by Our Team
Despite our success, we faced several obstacles, including:
🔸 Limited sanitary pads – The demand was higher than our supply.
🔸 Shortage of knickers and soap – Essential for maintaining hygiene during menstruation.
🔸 Time constraints – We needed more time to engage the girls fully.
🔸 Limited funding – Financial constraints affected our ability to provide more materials.
These challenges highlight the need for more resources and support to sustain and expand this program.
Our Achievements
Despite the challenges, we celebrate these milestones:
✅ 216 sanitary pads distributed to young girls and women.
✅ Empowered and educated 400 girls on menstrual health management.
✅ Encouraged confidence and dignity in young girls.
✅ 28 individuals gave their lives to Christ, proving that this initiative is not only about health but also about spiritual transformation.
Call to Action – Let’s Do More!
We cannot stop here! We call upon well-wishers, organizations, and individuals to support this program by:
📌 Donating sanitary pads and hygiene essentials.
📌 Supporting menstrual health awareness initiatives.
📌 Helping us reach more girls in need.
Your support can change a girl’s life!
Conclusion
The Pad a Girl Project was a great success, but there is still more to be done. With more support and resources, we can impact even more lives and help girls manage their periods with dignity and confidence.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed—financially, spiritually, and physically. Every donation, every prayer, and every effort made a difference.
Together, we can continue to uplift and empower young girls through menstrual health education and support.
